The (old) Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 is a relic of the earliest days of EOS. This year it celebrated its 25th (!) year in production which is nothing short of amazing for an AF lens. However, 2012 is finally also the year of its successor - the Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 USM IS. As you may notice the focal length and speed remained the same but Canon added a I currently own a Canon 50D and Canon 5D mk1 paired with EF 85mm 1.8. I used to have a EF-S 24mm 2.8, which I sold with the aim of buying the EF 28mm f2.8 IS. In my mind, the two lenses will give me all the flexibility I need: 135mm – APS-C + 85mm 1.8 85mm This lens is a massive, eye-opening improvement from the original EF 24mm F/2.8. Sharpness is dramatically improved, flare reduced, improved color, and IS added. At this focal length, IS is less useful for general shooting, but still can be used for certain types of specialty shots and video.
